TAKING ON THE BMW 5 SERIES: The new CTS is expected to compete against German rivals the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.

Cadillac is gearing up to showcase its latest CTS and our team spotted some prototypes undergoing testing.

The camouflaged car gives us a good indication of what the new model will eventually look like in the metal with a redesigned bonnet, fascia, fenders and headlights and a a family resemblance to the new ATS sedan.

You’ll notice the grille is significantly larger than the current model and it looks like engineers are testing some aerodynamic pieces on the bumper. The rear will also be fully revised, judging by the covers.

LED LIGHTS, NEW EXHAUSTS

The tail lights appear to use diode lighting, while the headlights have small vertical diode daytime running lights.

At the rear you can spot trapezoidal exhaust outlets and a rear diffuser appears to be part of the redesign.

Changes are in place at the side of the car and in profile the roof appears more rounded, particularly at the rear.

The external mirrors are shorter and slimmer and contain turn indicator repeaters.

The shape of the rear side windows looks to be slightly different as well, with what may be slightly thinner C pillars behind them.
