Honda’s popular Civic hatch had its debut back in 1972 and the current generation was launched in 2005. Despite a minor facelift in 2009, a new model is long overdue. With that in mind, the Japanese automaker is working on the next generation of its Civic and a prototype was spotted under test in Germany. Our spy images show the new model sporting a similar wheelbase but a slightly wider track than the current model. The overall dimensions should not differ too much from the current Civic and despite the model snapped in our spy shots looking like it's held together with duct tape, it all forms part of Honda’s attempts at subterfuge.Though disguised, one can spot changes to the grille and design tweaks to the rear doors' releases. The new Civic also has changes to the entire roof line and all the cabin glass. Our spies tell us that power will continue to be derived from four-cylinder petrol and turbodiesel engines capable of 59kW to 104kW. The current 85kW 1.3 hybrid engine will be carried over. The next generation Civic will be launched early in 2012.Check out our gallery here!
