Back in 2011 we reported on BMW’s new electric vehicles, the i3 and i8, under the new “i” sub-brand.

Our spy photographers have snapped a new series of images of what will become the i3. BMW hopes to sell as many as 30 000 units in its first full year of sales - 2014.

The i3 will launched along with the i8 hybrid supercar in 2013. Both models will be built at the Leipzig plant and ride on the German automaker’s "LifeDrive" architecture which has an aluminium chassis and a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic cabin.

The under-the-bonnet electric motor is rated at 97kW.
