Our spies spotted BMW latest model to sport the GT moniker – the new 3 Series GT.Like its bigger sibling the 5 Series GT, the new model features a raised seating position, increased ride height and also adopts a two-tier rear hatch design. The 3 Series GT will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and xDrive AWD configurations, with power coming from a range of four and six cylinder engines. Our spy shots reveal a glimpse of how the new model will look, showing hints of the aggressive new design direction BMW is set to implement across its line-up. In 2010 BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer stated that his company has not cancelled plans for a 3 Series crossover as its “considered a volume builder with which we can earn good money.”Designers have stressed the car’s coupe characteristics just as they did with the X6 and new 5 Series GT. As expected, on the test model we can see short overhangs, pumped fenders and sporty alloy wheels. Pricing will probably be much higher than the standard 3 Series to reflect the new models positioning. Along with the all-new X3, the 3 Series GT will rival Audi’s A4 Avant as well as the upcoming Q3 SUV. The GT version of the new 3 Series will be presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, ahead of the F30 sedan which will arrive in 2012.
