SPIED: Alfa Romeo SUV?

Alfa Romeo will branch out into the SUV market as a new model was spotted undergoing testing in Europe.

The SUV, likely to be named the CXover or C-SUV, was spotted under the body of a Giulietta.

Alfa Romeo CEO Luca de Meo has confirmed the Italian automaker will have its own SUV to take on the likes of the Renault Koleos and Volkswagen Tiguan.

The SUV is set to have dimensions of 4.4m long and 1.8m wide and will sport LED head and taillights and ride on 20" wheels.

Our spies inform us that a 223kW 2.0 petrol turbo engine will be powering the future Italian SUV. The SUV is also set to have all-wheel drive.

The C-SUV/CXover is planned to kick off Alfa Romeo's return to the USA, since the automaker withdrew in 1995. It could also be called the Kamal, after the 2003 concept car.

Expect the new SUV to be launched late in 2013.
