Spotted in SA: Next C-Class

NELSPRUIT, Mpumalanga - Wheels24 reader WARREN NEWMAN spotted this new Mercedes-Benz C-Class in possible AMG guise undergoing testing in Riverside, north-east of Nelspruit.

The new C-Class is expected to make its South African debut in May 2014. However, Mercedes-Benz South Africa says this could very well be the AMG version as the Germans have already completed testing for the C-Class model.

Also, it has four exhaust pipes and that can only mean one thing... there's a V8 engine under that bonnet, so our suspicions that it's the AMG has to be right. And, Mercedes-Benz SA thinks so too.

Mercedes SA said the AMG would launch in Germany towards the end of 2014 and arrive in SA in 2015.

The automaker said: "We don't really know when and where international testing is taking place, so its quite likely to be the AMG."

Newman said: "I took the pictures on March 15 around 9am in Riverside, Nelspruit. The size of the vehicle was that of a C-Class as it was definitely a Mercedes. Under the disguise you'll notice the subtle changes from the current C-class.

"I think its more of a facelift - the nose around the grille has been drawn forward like its bigger siblings. It looks much better overall."

MUCH LIGHTER

The new C-Class, says Mercedes, is 100kg lighter than its predecessor. There is also a host of new driver assist systems and air suspension is an option.

The C-Class will initially include C180, C200, C220 BlueTec and C250.
