Fiat Auto SA is to launch the new Alfa 159, the successor to the iconic 156, and the striking Brera sports car here in 2006.

Recently Fiat Auto spokesperson Clynton Yon told Wheels24 that the Alfa 159 will be here in the second quarter. The Brera will be launched in the second half of 2006.

There is no indication yet of both ranges local engine line-up but it is expected to be comprehensive.

The 159 features a host of of new engines. First of all, the three new JTS engines with continuous dual variable valve timing (inlet and exhaust): the 3.2 V6 24v (191 kW / 322 Nm), the 2.2 (136 kW /  230 Nm) and the 1.9 (118 kW /  190 Nm).

On the diesel side the 159 comes with a 2.4 JTDM 5-cylinder 20v engine (147 kW /  400 Nm), and two 1.9 JTDM engines.

The Brera comes with a 135 kW 2.2-litre JTS and a potent 190 kW 3.2-litre V6, while a 147 kW 2.4-litre turbodiesel model is also available in Europe.
