Golf SUV to be based on the Golf Plus (Images: Automedia)
The new VW CrossGolf, which is based on the new Golf Plus, will probably be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show with sales starting in 2006.
VW will give the Golf SUV a beefier look and as our images show it will come with wider, more muscular wheelarches and modified bumpers.
Furthermore VW will also revise the front end and changes will include Passat-style headlights as well as a chunky off-roader style bumper.
The car's ride height will be 60 mm higher than that of the Golf Plus and sources say that it will also feature underbody and sump guards for protection when tackling off-road surfaces.
Auto Express reports that its four-wheel-drive setup will be based on VW's 4MOTION system where power is evenly distributed between the front and rear.
Engines will be similar to that of the normal Golf and should therefore include 1.6 and 2.0-litre FSI units, as well as 1.9 and 2.0 TDI turbodiesels.

Beefed-up!
