While the GTI version of the new Volkswagen Golf 7 was debuted earlier in 2013, spy-photographers snapped the first prototype of Wolfsburg’s top-of-the-range Golf R.
Like its predecessors it will be distinguished by an assertive fascia, aerodynamic side skirts and a centre-mounted dual exhaust system which is not mounted on the prototype yet.

Other goodies include a sport-tuned suspension, a high-performance braking system and 19- or 20-inch alloys.
The model will receive leather sport seats, black trim and carbon-fibred accents.
The all-wheel-drive Golf R will be provided by a turbocharged 2.0 capable of 208kW and 350Nm. The engine will enable the hot hatch to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in "less than six seconds" and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.
Lots more Wheels24 spy shots.
