Mercedes-Benz will launch a new model set to compete against the Range Rover Evoque – the GLA crossover. Spy photographers spotted the new model undergoing testing.
Expect the GLA to be sportier in appearance than the average crossover and engines are likely to be derived from the current A and B-Class offerings.
Spy images give us an indication of what to expect in terms of its styling and interior.
The base engine should be a four-cylinder with 157kW on tap and should be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It's unclear if both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations will be offered.
The GLA will make its debut in 2014.
NEW GENERATION OF COMPACT CARS
At the start of production of the latest A-Class at the automaker’s plant in Rastatt, Germany, the automaker revealed that its new generation of compact cars will span five different models, including the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and the GLA crossover.
While it’s not clear what the fifth model will be, the automaker may simply be referring to a new electric B-Class though there have also been reports that a compact roadster dubbed the SLA was in the works.
