TURIN, Italy - Alfa Romeo is readying its first SUV as part of its return the US market.
Hidden beneath a modified Fiat 500L is Alfa Romeo’s new SUV due to be released in Europe in late 2016.
Spy photographers spotted the new SUV undergoing testing. The automaker says its new model forms part of its return to the US market.

Rumours suggest the compact 4x4 will use the same Maserati-developed rear-wheel drive "Giorgio" platform as the future “Giulia” sedan and both will be built at Alfa Romeo's Cassino factory near Rome, Italy.

It is believed the model will be equipped with a newly developed V6 turbodiesel but details regarding its output are not available yet.
An Alfa Romeo spokesperson named the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Porsche Macan as the competitors of the future Alfa SUV, reports Automedia.
