Cape Town - The segment for large crossovers/SUVs retailing in the sub-R1-million category, is once again led by South Africa’s favourite SUV: the Toyota Fortuner.
In October 2017, the Fortuner amassed a sales total of 1337 units; substantially more than the Ford Everest in second place.
What a gap
The Everest, despite an expanded and more affordable line-up, managed to only sell 594 units. In third place another Toyota, the Land Cruiser 200, secured 119 buyers. Impressive, given the retail price of R970 000!

Taking Toyota’s number of vehicles in the top ten to four is the Prado. This big SUV sold a solid 59 units to steer it clear of the fifth placed Jeep Grand Cherokee (46 units).
In sixth place the Mahindra XUV secured 44 new signatures from buyers, while the Chevrolet Trailblazer (33 units) soldiers on despite a dark and uncertain future in seventh place.
Jeep’s Wrangler slots in in eighth place on 27 units, as does the Mahindra Scorpio (27 units).
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport completes the top ten, also on 27 units.
