Cape Town - The Toyota Hilux topped the sales charts for the first time in 2017.
The best-selling bakkie ended February 2017 with a sales figure 3086 units, beating Ford's Ranger (2913).
Bakkie wars continue
Nissan's proven Hardbody (1493) came in third ahead of its smaller sibling, the NP200 (1327). These two bakkies far outsold Nissan's outgoing Navara on 147 units in eighth. The all-new Navara will be launched in South Africa in March.
The Isuzu KB sold 1058 units to grab fifth place, final bakkie in the top ten list to sell more than 1000 units. Chevrolet's Ute was the sixth best-seller with 833 models sold.
The Toyota Land Cruiser pick-up (245) is in seventh, while the Volkswagen Amarok and Mahindra Scorpio both sold 108 units to grab ninth and tenth position respectively.

Commenting on the bakkie sales Naamsa (National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa) said: "Domestic sales of industry new light commercial vehicles, bakkies and mini buses at 14 416 units during February, 2017 reflected a significant improvement of 1 277 units or a gain of 9.7% compared to the 13 139 light commercial vehicles sold during the corresponding month last year.
"The positive trend in new vehicle sales had been maintained during February 2017, characterised by noteworthy gains in light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales."
