Cape Town - The Volkswagen Polo Vivo was once again the top selling passenger car in June 2017, beating its nearest challenger, the VW Polo, by just over 600 units.
The Vivo has been the category leader for most of the year and has this far upstaged every vehicle in the top 10.
Toyota stakes a claim
Though Volkswagen occupy the top two slots, it is Toyota with the most number of vehicles in the top 10 list. The Corolla/Auris/Quest, Fortuner, Etios and Rav4 are keeping the Japanese firm’s name high.
Interestingly, Ford only has the EcoSport in this list, with the Fiesta missing out by a mere three units. The Datsun Go! occupies the final slot.
The Renault Kwid continues to beat the budget segment with another strong showing.
Naamsa says: "The June 2017 new car market at 28 639 units reflected a fall of 630 cars or a decline of 2.2% compared to the 29 269 new cars sold in June last year. The outlook for the second half of the year remains uncertain. Political tensions and subdued economic growth prospects continues to impact negatively on business confidence and consumer sentiment."
