A 33-year-old man has been arrested for riding at 234km/h on the R21 at the Nellmapius Drive exit near Pretoria.

A Gauteng traffic police spokesperson said the man was arrested just before 11am on the off-ramp outside Pretoria.

RUSHING TO MUM'S SIDE

Nxumalo said: "He was travelling with his girlfriend on a blue Kawasaki ZX and claimed he was rushing to his mother in Pretoria who claimed to be having a panic attack."

The man was charged with reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h, Nxumalo said.

He was released on R1000 bail and will appear in Lyttleton Magistrate's Court.

Aside from being an idiot, the scary part is that the girlfriend was in all probility dressed in normal clothes like jeans and high heels. I see this all the time on breakfast runs; the rider is kitted out with the very latest, state of the art riding gear from top to toe, while the babe on the back wears nothing but ordinary street clothes with a helmet. At these speeds off course, the best protective gear in the world won't save you, just saying.
