French carmaker Renault is recalling its Scenic II models for checks on the backseat safety belts, a company spokesperson said on Monday.

About 888 000 Scenic II models are covered by the recall, including 327 000 in France.

"For security reasons, we are recalling the entire Scenic II range built until December 2005," the French spokesperson said.

No accidents have been reported that are related to the safety belt.

According to Renault South Africa spokesperson Doris Roberts South African models are affected by the recall too.

She told Wheels24 that it involves a "minor" fix of the rear safety belts and that it is a preventative measure.
