MUNICH, Germany - Renault's new Zoe electric supermini, revealed in production trim at the 2013 Geneva auto show, will go on sale in Germany in June 2013.
The Clio-sized car is expected to cost the equivalent of R256 000, excluding a monthly leasing fee for the high-tech rechargeable batteries which are mounted low in the chassis for better ride and handling.
SPACIOUS AND MODERN
The Zoe follows the wheel-at-each-corner format and measures just over four metres in length. It has room for five passengers and up to 338 litres of luggage.
Although the Zoe takes styling cues from the Clio, it looks more futuristic. The cabin includes a range of digital displays - highlighting battery power and range - instead of conventional instruments.
The Zoe is powered by a 66kW electric motor with a top speed governed electronically to 135km/h. Following a full charge the car's range is given as 210km.
Recharging takes 30 minutes to eight hours, depending on source.
