UPDATE: Reader's 50 pics: Classic car show

REYNARD GELDERBLOM

Wheels24 reader REYNARD GELDERBLOM thought he would spend Heritage Day with the things he loves most... cars. He attended the 2014 Classic car show on Heritage Day and sent in some awesome images.

Gelderblom had this to say about the event:

On September 24 we celebrated Heritage Day and while most of the country started a braai or went to a traditional festival, I looked for something to commemorate my roots. After all, in a country of very diverse cultures there has to be a celebration for people with a blood type called "95 Octane."

I found this at Cape Town's Castle of Good Hope: A classic car show. The group of owners of these wonderful machines gathered earlier the morning at the Rondebosch Common before heading into the CBD.

I have some mixed reviews about this though. The successful part of the day was the cars on display - and some of the stories told by some of the owners. I could gladly spend an entire day listening to exactly what it takes to maintain a classic car in such good condition.

The failure in my books: Free entry. There's no greater sign of disrespect than seeing a couple of unaccompanied toddlers using a 98-year-old Model T Ford as a jungle gym.

That said, the show was well-attended and I'd like to see more of these sort of events... Hey, even Elvis decided to come have a look.
