Pistol-packin' 'padre' hijacks Jozi taxi

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - A minibus taxi driver was hijacked, apparently by a priest packing a pistol, in Protea Glen, Soweto, on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said: "The man - the taxi driver said was fully dressed in clerical clothing - stopped the taxi and asked the driver to take him to a nearby area to fetch a group of his congregation

'HE LOOKED GENUINE'

"The priest (statement's word) was the only passenger. He then pointed a gun at the driver a few minutes later... and drove off with the Toyota Quantum, leaving the driver at the side of the road."

The driver told police the hijacker, estimated to be in his 50's, looked like a genuine priest.

The spokesperson added: "He said the suspect was an older man with a beard and that nobody would have doubted that he was a clergyman."

No arrest had been made when this report was published.
