Transport minister Dipuo Peters has urged drivers to obey the rules of the road during the festive season as several road deaths were reported in South Africa.
Peters said: “Respect and love other road users. Concede the right of way where necessary, be calm, restrain your temper and avoid road rage.”
Peters said seatbelts must be used especially for young children. Drivers should not drink, speed, illegally overtake and should keep a safe following distance.

She asked drivers to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and not overloaded.
The Western Cape transport department released statistics revealing 100 road fatalities in the province since the beginning of December 2013.
