The Facebook-based interactive design competition saw thousands of hopeful entrants design their very own Nissan Micrasonline, with the grand prize being a brand new Micra sporting the winner’s design pattern on its bodywork. Following a sharing and voting process whereby Facebook users could vote for their favourite designs, the winner was selected with 1503 votes.

The Nissan Facebook page saw exponential growth and popularity as a result. The page has now racked up almost 50 000 ‘likes’ to date and nearly 35 000 visits were logged in the specially-designed ‘My Ride, My Rules!’ app within the page between December 2012 and March 2013.

More than 18 000 design entries were received since the competition began.

The winner, Talisa Lewis, walks away with a brand new Nissan Micra 1.5 Tekna which will be decorated with her unique design. The Johannesburg-based medical student says her win is proof that dreams do come true.

NEW BEGINNINGS

“After I first entered the competition in February it ended up occupying my mind all the time!," she said. "I don’t have a car despite trying to get one for years so as soon as I heard about the competition on the radio I started thinking of designs.

“The fact that my Micra will feature my own design which reflects my love for music is a bonus. My new Nissan Micra means three extra hours in my day which, for a medical student, is a lot of time."

Nissan SA’s Des Fenner, marketing manager for passenger vehicles, said the overwhelming success of the competition had shown that Nissan SA had its eye on the ball.

He said: “Our brand slogan, ‘Innovation that Excites’, has been personified by the ‘My Ride, My Rules!’ competition and the exceptional level of participation by the general public has exceeded our expectations.”
