Nismo-tuned Micra: Nissan Cup is a go!

QUEBEC, Canada - Nissan Canada will in 2015, launch its most affordable race series yet featuring, Nissan says, the country's most affordable car - The Nissan Micra Cup.

The series will comprise of ten races from May to September 2015 in Quebec. According to organisers, over 25 track-tuned Nissan Micra's will compete.

According to the automaker: "Nissan Canada and JD Motorsport announced the launch of the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup in Quebec - an exciting one-of-a-kind racing series offering the lowest running cost of any Canadian series and featuring Canada’s most affordable vehicle, the 2015 Nissan Micra.

'GAP BETWEEN KARTING AND RACING'

"The Micra Cup’s inaugural season will take place in Canada’s motorsport fan hub, the province of Quebec, over the course of five weekends starting in May 2015. The Micra Cup offers drivers the opportunity to race on some of the most well-known race tracks in Quebec, with the potential to expand to other provinces in 2016 and beyond.

"Micra Cup uses race-ready versions of the 2015 Micra to bridge the gap between karting and racing."

RACE-TUNED MICRA

The racing spec Micra, available from series partners JD Motorsports, is powered by a four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol 81kW/107Nm.

It gains a Nismo suspension kit, modified exhaust, high-performance brake pads, safety cage, driver protection net, FIA-approved racing seats,  five-point safety harness, unique alloys with Pirelli low-profile performance tyres. The car, was tested by professional Quebec racer Jean-François Dumoulin.

According to Nissan: "Everything in the interior of the vehicle will be removed (seats, floor, door panels, steering wheel etc.) to install the aforementioned features and transform it into the race version ready for the Nissan Micra Cup. Each vehicle will be delivered to Nissan Micra Cup competitors in ready-to-race condition."
