STILL GROWING: Dezzi Raceway in Marburg, near Port Shepstone, has been hugely upgraded into a 2.5km full race circuit - the sea views are great, too. Image: Dezzi Raceway
PORT SHEPSTONE, KZN - A 2.5km race circuit has been unveiled as an extension to the existing Dezzi Raceway near Port Shepstone as the only Motorsport SA-approved track in kwaZulu-Natal.
It includes two purpose-built drifting tracks.
The original semi-private track was based on a private airstrip runway off which ran two loops and a turning pad - now it has become a competitive racing circuit that overlooks the beauty of the KZN South Coast.
The track started as a single tarred runway for light planes and car tests, evolved to include two drift circuits together offering eight variations (including the ability to race in both directions, enter from either side) as well as track elevations).
THIRD 'TIME ATTACK'
A recently completed stretch of high-speed corners has joined the two drift tracks to form the full circuit.
This year will see the third annual instalment of the Dezzi Invitational Time Attack which will welcome nearly 60 of SA’s top drivers over July 3-5, each competing in the international Time Attack format. Spectators can expect to see multi-million rand cars racing, among them Ferraris, McLarens, and Lamborghinis.
The Dezzi Raceway says it has all the amenities for an unforgettable day at the races. There are two sets of open pits, one lock-up pit, an aeroplane hangar, viewing decks and grass banks, marshalling towers, hospitality zones, a timing office and briefing room, showers and toilets.
A big entertainment area is currently being built.

Track owners Des and Louise Gutzeit told Wheels24: “This track is a big milestone for us and KZN. It’s a privilege and honour to be able to share it with the country and contribute to the growth of motorsport in South Africa.
"We're looking forward to huge things in the future.”
