More space and luggage capacity in the Seat Altea XL

No decisions have been made on when or if the new car, just announced in Europe, will get to SA, but sources say it's under consideration. If it comes, it will onloy be next year.

. The SEAT Altea XL is 18.7 cm longer than the Altea (which is currently available in SA) resulting in better interior comfort and a larger boot capacity.

This means a boot of 532 litres, while sliding the rear seats forwards by 14 cm expands this to 635 litres, the largest in its class.

Compared to the Altea, the rear seats in the Altea XL can be moved back by an extra 2 cm, meaning additional legroom for rear passengers.

The fore-aft adjustment range of the rear seats has therefore been extended to 16 cm in the new Altea XL.

As far as styling is concerned, the most significant modifications have been made at the rear of the vehicle where the lines have been softened to reflect the vehicle's more family-orientated character.

The large tail-light units, which are split between the hatch and the vehicle's flanks, form a particularly eye-catching feature, and there are now two roof-rack rails.

A number of functional new features can be found inside the SEAT Altea XL, including fold-down tables on the front seat backs, a power socket in the vehicle's boot and a handy pull-out roller-type luggage cover.

In Europe. the Altea XL will be launched with a variety of petrol and TDI diesel engines with a choice of five or six-speed manual, six-speed tiptronic or 6-speed DSG gearboxes.
