Man City star gets driving ban

MANCHESTER, England - Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been banned from driving for failing to provide the required documentation when he was stopped for speeding.

Tevez's vehicle broke the speed limit in Morecambe, a retirement and holiday resort in north-west England, on March 28 2012 while he was there to play for City's reserve team against Morecambe reserves.

The Argentine's solicitor told magistrates in nearby Lancaster that Tevez accepted he did not provide identification - which carries six licence penalty points - and that under the 'totting-up' procedure he was now liable for a driving ban.

The lawyer claimed: "My instructions are that he was not the driver." He asked the magistrates to impose an interim ban and delay sentencing so that a "no-licence case" from Manchester could be dealt with at the same time.

"Tevez has been told that he will not be able to drive this morning".

 

Tevez, who did not attend the hearing, will discover the length of the suspension on December 20.

The ban is the latest motoring misdemeanour for the former Manchester United and West Ham star. His Porsche Panamera was impounded in Manchester on November 15 2012 when he could not produce a full UK driving licence.

Tevez, 28, mimicked driving a vehicle after that incident as he celebrated scoring twice in City's Premier League win at home to Aston Villa.
