Wheels24's Wilmer Muller is on the launch of the Commander and he will give his impressions of the vehicle on Friday.
But we can give you some vital info on the vehicle. The Commander is the first Jeep with three rows of seats, with each row slightly higher than the one in front of it.
This distinctive stadium seating arrangement makes forward viewing easier.
The second and third row seats fold forward to create a flat load floor. Commander is only 5 cm longer than the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, even though it is designed to accommodate three rows of seats.
The Commander has the same 4x4 systems, suspension and powertrains as the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, including an independent front suspension and rack and pinion steering.
Two V8 engine options will be available for South Africa, a 4.7-litre and the impressive 5.7-litre V8 Hemi. The 4.7-litre pushes out 170 kW at 5 000 r/min while torque is 410 Nm at 3 600 r/min. Power output for the Hemi engine is 240 kW at 5 000 r/min and torque is 500 Nm at 4 000 r/min.
