JOHANNESURG, Gauteng - Mahindra has launched a cut-price W4 version of its XUV500 mid-sized sport utility vehicle to mark the 10th anniversary of the multinational company’s arrival in South Africa.
CEO Ashok Thakur explained: “Our products offer very good value, are reliable and durable, and sales in South Africa have shown steady growth in the past decade. Often a motor company will launch a higher-priced model to mark an anniversary or special occasion but we decided to introduce this model to cut R30 000 off the current XUV500.”
The XUV500 W4 is already in Mahindra showrooms.
SAME MECH SPECS
“We’re sure this will be appreciated,” Thakur added, “by people facing tough economic times with inflation, a rising interest rate, fuel -price increases and e-toll fees.”
The W4, Mahindra says, has the same mechanical specification as other XUV500 models, including a 103kW / 330Nm 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
Some features found on the W6 and W8 models have been deleted to meet the price constraint but still present are:
• Projector headlights
• Audio system with four speakers, CD/MP3, iPod and USB capability and connectivity
• Aircon and power windows
• Power adjustment for the external mirrors
• Power-assisted steering with tilt adjustment for the steering column
• Remote control to open the tail hatch
• Fold-flat second and third-rows seats
Thakur added: “We at Mahindra are very pleased by the excellent progress in 10 years and believe the very well-priced W4 is a fitting gesture for this milestone.”
The company has also expanded into Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia
