LE MANS, France - Marc Marquez (Honda) outpaced all his MotoGP rivals through both practice sessions on Friday (May 15 2014) ahead of the 2014 Le Mans race.
He was even faster in the afternoon session with a time of 1min33.452, quicker than the fastest lap in a race at Le Mans which, MotoGP reports, was set by Dani Pedrosa in 2011.
Behind Marquez in the afternoon was Andrea Iannone (Pramac) only 0.007sec slower than Marquez. Honda Gresini rider Alvaro Bautista was just over 0.2sec down.
ROSSI PUSHING BACK
Bradley Smith (Yamaha Tech3) was fourth-best, the MotoGP times show, at less than a half-second off Marquez’ pace. Marquez' team mate Dani Pedrosa was fifth and close to Smith.
Stefan Bradl (Honda), Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) and Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) were also within a top 10 which was completed by Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) who, MotoGP said, produced a slight late improvement to move up from 11th, despite a run off-track towards the end of the session.
A crash for Le Mans 2013 Moto2 race-winner Scott Redding (Honda Gresini) with 15 minutes to go disrupted his FP2 workout at Turn 9 but he was not hurt and went straight back out on a second bike.
