KZN car chase ends in crash

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing a car and attempted murder in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, reports police.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the men were arrested on December 28 2013

Patrolling officers saw a red Volkswagen Polo with three occupants and tried to stop it. The driver sped off. He lost control and crashed into a wall in the ensuing chase.

'FIRED SHOTS AT THE POLICE'

Zwane said: "The suspects then got out of the vehicle and one produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the police."

The police fired back and the men fled on foot. Two were arrested later, while the third man was still at large, he said.

The car was stolen on December 27 2013. The men were expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court soon.
