Dries van der Walt
With cars ranging from the run-of-the-mill to the exotic, as well as a generous sprinkling of concepts, the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) is serving up a feast for local petrolheads
The show is well-supported by manufacturers, from mainstream brands to the newer Chinese manufacturers such as GWM and FAW.
Car manufacturers exhibiting include Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Citroën, FAW, Ford, GWM, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jiangling, Kia, Lexus, Mahindra, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Smart, SsangYong, Tata, Toyota, and VW.
LOTS OF LAUNCHES
As the accompanying images show, there are a number of concept cars, competition cars and specials on display. If this is an indication of the local motoring companies’ confidence in the future then exciting times are ahead for motoring enthusiasts.

A number of model launches are scheduled during the exhibition to give the public to first look at what to expect in showrooms in 2014.
The stands cover four exhibition halls and a vast outdoor exhibition area. Expect to be treated to more than enough automotive excitement from cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles and even boats. My advice: plan on spending at least a whole day at JIMS - anything less will simply not do this extensive exhibition justice.
TAKE A DAY OFF
The Johannesburg International Motor Show will be open to the public (the previous two days are for the news media and trade) at the National Exhibition Centre (Nasrec) from Friday October 18 to Sunday October 27.
If you’re in or around Johannesburg make a point of visiting it – you won’t regret it!
