Johannesburg - South Africa’s new vehicle industry saw sales plummet 17% in July 2016, reports the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa).
Despite a huge drop in sales, thousands of vehicles were sold in July 2016 with Naamsa reporting 44 883 models sold.
We look at the top 10 best-selling passenger cars in SA.
Most popular cars in SA
The Volkswagen Polo Vivo remains SA's best-selling car with a total of 2452 units sold in July 2016. Ford's popular Fiesta beat the standard Polo (1595), with 1740, an increase of a more than 1000 units compared to June 2016.

In fourth place is the Toyota Fortuner (1418), ahead of its Toyota siblings Corolla, Auris and Corolla Quest (the automaker reports combined sales).
The Toyota Etios claimed sixth (923) and Ford's EcoSport (867) remains in seventh.
Making a comeback
A trio of vehicles returned to the top 10 ranking - Renault Sandero, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Golf.

The Sandero (522) is the eighth most sold car in July, followed by the RAV4 (441) and Golf (435) in ninth and tenth, respectively.
The BMW 3 Series (363), Chevrolet Spark (132) and Renault Clio (244) all dropped out of top ten most.
