A woman of steel, but with a soft centre, has been appointed human resources director at Nissan SA.
She's Charmaine Lemao, whose career started at Iscor (now Mittal Steel) and progressed through Nampak Tissue where she was HR director. She's Nissan's first female director.
Mike Whitfield, MD of Nissan SA, told Wheels24: "We envisage Lemao making a significant contribution to reaching our goals in South Africa and look forward to her energy and fresh approach doing so.”
SOLID FOUNDATION
As head of Nissan SA’s HR department and its sub-divisions her portfolio includes training and development, recruitment, talent management and talent retention. She says she's ready for some of its challenges:
“Mining and industry laid a solid foundation for my professional development and prepared me for working in a unionised environment. I’m also familiar with historically male environments so, while the automotive industry is new to me, working predominantly with men is not.”
Lemao is from Atteridgeville, near Pretoria, but studied at the University of Westville in kwaZulu-Natal and at the University of Johannesburg.
She also completed an executive training programme through Unisa.
If YOUR automotive-related company makes senior staff changes or appointments tell Wheels24 about them and we'll publish them in our Industry News section. E-maill feedback@wheels24.co.za
