Uitenhage - VWSA has quashed reports that its Golf/Jetta production could be shifted from Uitenhage to Germany.
The manufacturer said in a statement that the article in Wolfsburger Allegemeiner Zeitung about a VWAG decision to shift production of Golf from the Uitenhage facility to Wolfsburg is "purely speculative".
"No decisions have been taken with regard to rationalising future Golf/Jetta platforms within the VW Group," the company stated.
VWSA also mentioned that in terms of the Motor Industry Development Plan (MIDP), an alternative platform would have to be established to allow VWSA to optimise it production volumes for both domestic and export market.
It was reported earlier in the German publication that VWAG had planned to shift production of its right-hand drive Golf from the Uitenhage plant to its Wolfsburg production facility from mid-2008.
