Former Alfa Romeo design chief, Wolfgang Josef Egger has been appointed Audi Group head of design effective from May 1.
Egger succeeds Walter Maria de Silva who assumed the position as head of design for the Volkswagen Group on February 1.
"In refilling this position, the company with the four rings is strengthening its independence in matters of design and is thereby confirming the significance of this Audi core competence", commented Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management at Audi AG.
The latest move is yet another design coup for the Volkswagen Group. Egger, like de Silva before him, previously headed the Alfa Romeo design studio.
Wolfgang Josef Egger began his career as a designer at Alfa Romeo in 1989. He joined Seat's design management team in 1998 and moved to Lancia in 2001.
