111 111 111: More than 111 million Volkswagens have been produced in 35 locations across the world.

Volkswagen has ended 2010 on a high note with a very special anniversary model that rolled off the line at its main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Car number 111 111 111 to be produced at Wolfsburg was a Golf GTI finished in shadow blue metallic.

The first mass-produced VW was the iconic Beetle, which went into production in 1945. More than 21.5-million were assembled over its lifetime.

However VW’s most successful car remains the Golf – 28-million have been produced since the Mk.1 went into production in 1974.

"This production milestone is especially due to our employees at the production facilities worldwide," said Hubert Walters, production director of the Volkswagen brand. "It requires high engineering and decades of production know-how to produce more than 111-million vehicles.
