The new Seat Ibiza has just been put through its paces in the Euro NCAP tests and has been rated one of the safest cars in its class.

The subcompact hatchback was awarded five stars for occupant safety, four stars for child protection and three stars for pedestrian protection.

The test car was fitted with the standard airbags for the two front occupants as well as new head and thorax side airbags which replace traditional side and curtain airbags.

The car was also fitted with ABS and traction control.

Ibiza was subjected to three tests - front, side and pole impact - in which it scored a grand total of 24 points, or 94%.

According to VWSA, no decision has been made regarding the introduction of the new-generation Ibiza in South Africa.
