Renault SA is on a winning streak; the local manufacturer posted a record performance for the second consecutive month and its best monthly performance since 2006.
Renault riding high in SA
The subsidiary recorded its highest level of passenger car sales in July, although this was “eclipsed during August when … Renault achieved its highest level of retail sales not only for 2010 but since October 2006,” Warren Olsen, Renault SA’s general manager of sales and marketing said.
“Our 137.5% increase in sales compared to August 2009 bears witness to an exceptional sales performance in the face of product availability challenges of our top selling Sandero hatchback,” he added.
Renault was affected by the recent strike action in the vehicle manufacturing sector. Production of Renault’s Sandero at alliance partner Nissan South Africa’s Rosslyn plant dropped by nearly 40%.
Olsen noted that Renault SA would continue with its “Satisfied or Reimbursed” initiative while prospective customers were encouraged to “go green” on the weekends of September 10 and 17 when the manufacturer would absorb the CO2 emissions tax on vehicles bought during that period.
Furthermore, Renault SA has some sports in line for hot hatch aficionados with the launches of the Twingo RS Gordini and the Clio RS20 later this month.
