Record 2011 - so far - for Merc

EYEING A RECORD: Mercedes-Benz has its sights set on breaking through the 1.3-million sales barrier in 2011.

Mercedes-Benz is hoping to achieve a sales record in 2011 after a June in which the it recorded its best sales yet for the month, its strongest quarter and best first half of the year in the company's history.

Worldwide sales of  Mercedes cars in June, 2011 rose by 6.4% year-on-year from 113 297 to 120 510 with strong growth in developing markets and the US helping against a decline in Europe.


Joachim Schmidt, marketing head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "The first half of the year went very well... We're on the right track. We have our sights on a record by selling more than 1.3-million cars and Smart ForTwo."

Smart sales were up 7.9% at 10 314.

Overall, Mercedes sold 610 531 units from January to June, 2011, up 9.7% over 2010. Car sales rose by 9.5% to 665 332.
