R17 000 Tata spotted in CT

accreditation
Wheels24 photographer William McIntosh reported seeing what appeared to the world's cheapest car, the Tato Nano, in a small city camera shoot.

McIntosh saw what he described as a "funny, small car" being off-loaded on one of the incomplete flyovers close to the city's harbour.

However, unable to stop on the bypass, McIntosh did not capture images of the little car.

The photographer reported seeing one bakkie, a small truck, one camera man with a tripod and two other men in the small shoot.

Punted as the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, the compact five-seater was created as a way to get Indian families off motorcycles and into safer "all-weather" transport.

At the time of Nano's rapturous unveiling at the New Delhi Motor Show in January, Tata SA told Wheels24 that there were no immediate plans to sell the car in South Africa.

Following the Nano's reveal, General Motors, Toyota and Hyundai have all vowed to manufacture their own "cheap" cars to rival the Nano.
