BLACK MARK FOR BADGE: Toyota is laying off workers 'because of a natural disaster'.

SAO PAULO, Brazil - Honda is firing 400 workers at a car factory in Brazil because of a lack of parts from Japan following that nation's recent earthquakes and flooding.

A Honda spokesman here said the plant had to reduce production from 600 units a day to 300 from June 6 because it could not get electronic components for its Civic, City and Fit (Jazz) models.

Union officials, however, said employees should not be punished for business failings due to natural disasters.
