Toyota's new Avanza compact MPV, launched at Auto Africa in the last week of October, has captured the imagination of South African buyers and lifted Toyota sales for November to an all time single month total of 13 963 units.
Total sales reported for the month were 61 233 including those of direct importers.
The Avanza took the market by storm with 1 931 deliveries for the month, almost double Toyota's projected average monthly sales in the initial launch phase. "The acceptance of the Avanza illustrates sensitivity of the market to price and added value in new vehicles," says Johan van Zyl, the President and CEO of Toyota South Africa.
"While the overall market remains strong the high acceptance level of the Avanza provides a clear indication that there is now an element of more rational thinking in the buying process, particularly amongst private buyers looking for their first new vehicle or an economical but functional second family vehicle. The Avanza offers a unique value proposition for these buyers. While the vehicle market remained strong in November, that strength was influenced to a greater extent than in past months by purchases in the lower priced end of the market."
The Corolla range topped the sales charts again with 3 416 sales for the month while demand for Yaris remained strong with 2 596 deliveries for November. Lexus sales continued to show strength with 205 sales for the month. Supply of the popular Fortuner continued to ease with 656 sales for the month. Hilux sales were 2&NBSP;266 for the month.
