Along with the Meiya unveiling, the McCarthy Group also unveiled a range of Chinese Foton commercial vehicles for the local market.
Both the Foton taxi and commercial vehicle are powered by a 2.2-litre petrol engine that produces 76 kW and 193 Nm. The engine is mated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 12+1 seater taxi is fully compliant with the latest Taxi recapitalisation requirements and has been subjected to testing in local conditions over six months.
Front occupants have three-point inertia reel seatbelts, while rear passengers in the taxi get lap belts.
Standard equipment on both models include front fog lamps, 195/ 70 R15 steel wheels, a radio, colour coded bumpers and mirrors, and headrests for the front seats.
The taxi has a one-year/40 000 km warranty while the panel van is sold with a one-year/100 000 km warranty.
Prices:
Taxi - R154 900
Panel Van - R149 900
Prices include automatic membership to Club McCarthy, which includes benefits such as free roadside assistance and emergency medical response, service discounts and membership to a holiday accommodation club.
All vehicles are fitted with the

In South Africa though, these new entrants will receive full parts and servicing back up from a total of 41 outlets throughout the country.
These McCarthy Value Centres include 12 full service dealerships (sales, servicing and parts) in major areas, and 29 service dealerships also mandated with the servicing of out-of-warranty vehicles.
