Lexus recall: New details

2010-10-22 07:02
Cape Town - Lexus SA has amended its “special service campaign” announcement by stating that only certain RX300 models and no IS or GS cars as previously indicated were affected.

The 467 RX300s sold between March 2003 and March 2006 are part of a global recall to fix a possible brake leak. Lexus SA has said it would begin notifying customers shortly.

However, the affected cars are expected to be with their second or even third owners and concerned RX300 owners are requested to contact the Lexus customer centre on 0800 22 0000 and quote their VIN number to determine whether their SUV is affected.

Lexus earlier stressed the recall was not safety critical.

“A seal in the brake master cylinder may leak slightly if the incorrect brake fluid had been used at any time during the car’s life. This could lead to the brake fluid warning light coming on prematurely”, the company said in a statement.
No brake failure was expected.

The repair work should take about two hours and the necessary components would be replaced with no charge to the customer.

Toyota SA confirmed that no other Toyota products were affected.
