Honeywell boosts local presence

Local automotive turbine distributor – TurboDirect – has acquired the rights to market and service America’s world-renowned Honeywell range of turbochargers.

Honeywell is the world’s leading supplier of turbocharging systems to the auto industry and adds boost as required to a host of performance brands. AMG’s new range of 5.5-litre turbocharged M157 V8's, for example, have Honeywell technology.

The company’s new local partnership should enable South African customers to access Honeywell’s GTX series of turbines, featuring an all-new 11-blade, forged aluminium, compressor and capable of delivering 20% more airflow.

WHAT'S THE POINT?

Although the idea of adding forced-induction to an engine is appealing, the consequences can be troubling and expensive.

What's the point of having these new GTX turbos available as aftermarket upgrades? Well, they're completely interchangeable with Honeywell’s GT-series turbines – enabling customers to upgrade to the GTX specification turbochargers seamlessly.

With most German turbodiesels running Honeywell turbochargers, the availability of the company’s GTX range in South Africa should offer customers keen on some additional performance and (increased) efficiency a great alternative to traditional plug-'n-play engine control module re-programming.
