Honda's left-footed Asimo meets Obama

TOKYO, Japan – Asimo, Honda's bipedal humanoid robot, has met US president Barack Obama here at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, known as "Miraikan" by the locals.

Asimo greeted Obama in English on April 24 2014 and said: "Mr President, I am Asimo, a humanoid robot. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Honda is conducting robotics research to eventually assemble robots that help people while co-existing with them.

The robot - of which there are many - also expressed its goal to Obama: "I keep training every day so that some day in the future I can help people in their homes."

Asimo, since its introduction in 2000, has met a number of VIP's from various countries - but this was his first "chat" with a US president.
