Honda South Africa has issued a recall of its award-winning Civic sedan due to a possible failure of the car's brake lights.
A batch of 2006 production Civic sedan models is affected.
"Honda SA deeply apologises for any inconvenience caused to customers and can assure the public that recalls of such a nature are extremely rare for our products," said the carmaker in a statement to Wheels24.
According to the head of Honda's customer services Robert Kingsley the incorrect application of silicon grease can result in the corrosion of an electrical device.
A possible symptom of this could be brake lamps not illuminating during braking.
Another possible symptom on automatic models includes difficulty releasing the shift lever from the park position.
Honda says owners have been contacted urging them to take their vehicles to their nearest Honda dealership. The work will take approximately 1 hour to complete.
The Honda Civic was named as South Africa's Car of the Year in 2006.
