Ford's lead exterior design position, uncomfortably vacant since May 2009, has been filled by Joel Piaskowski.Ford's new design boss left his previous appointment with Mercedes-Benz’s Californian advanced design centre in March 2010. He is pehaps known best known for his work with Hyundai, where he led the South Korean brand’s American design studio that created the Santa Fe, Veracruz and Elantra. The current Genesis large sedan is seen as Piaskowski’s most important work to date. Before his tenure with Hyundai Piaskowski spent 13-years on exterior and interior design for GM brands Pontiac, Chevrolet, Buick and Opel after graduating from the Detroit College for Creative Studies in 1990. He will start his term as Ford's lead designer on October 1, returning to the now very different (streamlined) Detroit design environment from which he graduated in the 1990's.
