General Motors announced on Tuesday that it is undertaking a strategic review of the Hummer brand.
According to a media statement released by the US car giant this could include everything from revamping the product portfolio to selling the brand.
GM said that the decision regarding Hummer is part of a larger corporate plan to reduce large commercial vehicle and SUV capacity in the US and to increase smaller car capacity in order to compete more effectively in the marketplace.
However, GM stated that it is a strategic review and that no decision has been taken yet.
General Motor South Africa (GMSA) also said that it is still committed to Hummer and currently it aims to grow the brand here.
"Hummer just one of our many brands and we will continue to invest in the most profitable portfolios for our business.
"In addition to this we will continue to work at securing additional export opportunities for our company," GMSA said.
