Ford's budget Figo coming to SA

Ford's new budget world car, the Figo, has been confirmed for local introduction after the carmaker unveiled the vehicle on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Ford Motor Company South Africa has told Wheels24 that the Figo will be launched here as the company's entry-level model range.

The Figo, which will be produced in India, is based on the previous-generation Fiesta. It will rival budget hatchbacks such as the Renault Sandero, Suzuki Alto and Hyundai i10.

Ford hasn't provided any engine details yet for the Figo.

Mike 12/12/2009 10:07 AM	Combines the best of both generations, the front of the new Fiesta and the rear of the previous . The only prob I see is engine parts. I was about to buy a second hand Fiesta, when I asked my local garage what he thought as he had one on the ramp. He told me there are no parts avail for Fiesta engines, specificaly big end bearings. Ended up having to buy a complete sub-assembly for R20k !!! Otherwise a great drive the above example only had 90,000 kms on it by the way. Still, I hope it does well.
Alex 9/27/2009 9:55 PM	I'm about to buy a previous generation Fiesta and don't mind the Figo looking similar, as it will extend the life of the shape (and resale value).
Eugene 9/25/2009 1:41 PM	I don't mind those Fiesta panels. Although nothing like the new one, which is a stunner, the previous one was good looking and bulletproof.
anon 9/25/2009 1:18 PM	Hopefully they get the pricing right. It will only make sense to market it, if it sells in the range of R90k to R130k. Seeing as one can get the new Fiesta from R150k onward. If they encroach on the new Fiesta price wise it will be an own goal. It will however have a negative impact on the previous generation Fiesta's resale values.
