If media reports are true, Chrysler’s Dodge Viper might be getting its own Ferrari/Maserati-derived engine. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has plans to make Dodge a performance brand for the US in the same way that Alfa Romeo is in Europe.
Fiat is currently developing a new V8 engine range for Ferrari and Maserati , and now reports suggest that this state of the art unit could easily be adapted for the Viper.
The Viper’s current V10 has been around for too long and has never been revised. Stricter emissions regulations will also force Chrysler to modernise the Viper’s powertrain. Therefore an all-new Viper is probably on the cards and rumour has it that it will also get a Maserati platform.
